Soup and Seeds

It’s fitting that under this full harvest moon, I made some soup that looks a lot like a blood moon, complete with yin/yang pattern supplied by synchronicity. About half of the ingredients were from the garden; and those are words I’ve never said in all my 50 years! I’m ripe for new experiences, and this is a wonderful one: making food from a garden planted by a community of people in sacred space back in June.

Powered by orange, I built a seed temple in my basement. These seeds are sacred little children, waiting to be placed in the Mother to burst forth in playful abundance when their time has come. But for now, they wait, growing in potential and energy. As I drummed and sang, the Ancestors and Star People came in to this little temple. I could feel them in my body from head to toe. They were having a party: celebrating that another human is making a connection with the Mother in deeper way.

Seed Temple

Everything I did in there, I did as ceremony, and it is quite a special place. There is powerful feminine and Grandmother energy in there.  So, if anyone wants to swap or share seeds, or say a prayer for them, they will be there waiting patiently as all seeds do, for the perfect time to come to life and change everything.

Mother’s calling

In Taos, there is a thing called the Taos hum. I have heard some explanations, everything from “it’s military traffic in the network of tunnels that weave all under northern New Mexico,” to  it being the resonance of the crystal core at the center of Taos Mountain: a sacred place of the Taos Pueblo Indians. I heard the hum there on numerous occasions, but never had the chance to determine what note it is. Perhaps it is different for each person, or on each day, or time of the year. Perhaps it is the Schumann Resonance, which is caused by standing waves between the Earth and Her atmosphere. It is 7.8 Hz (a slightly sharp B, and rising by some accounts). There are also harmonics above this “fundamental” which, interestingly enough, for those music geeks out there, are NOT harmonically related (i.e. whole number ratios), but rather are inharmonically related (the series is: 14, 20, 33 and 45 Hz).

What is interesting to me, is how these resonances are created: by lightening strikes. So, Zeus is literally playing the space between the Earth’s surface and the Ionosphere with thunderbolts! I’m sure someone who knows a lot more than me can make some connections to Greek Cosmology here, but that would be beside my point, which is that the body of the Earth is vibrating, like a base drum, and I have started to hear it now on a regular basis at Harmony Farm. Deep breath…

I do not think of these sounds, the ones that are present in my inner space during quiet time, as disorders-even when the high ringing ones happen. I choose to view them, rather, as momentary awarenesses of other dimensions, or aspects of this 3rd dimension that I have previously bracketed out. It is as John Cage encouraged: if I ignore them, they drive me crazy. But if I listen to them, and even ask who is there trying to communicate, perhaps I will go deeper into this experience called life in the 3rd dimension, and the mists of illusion begin to fade-replaced by glimpses of a different, perhaps deeper potential.

There is fascinating research on these Schumann resonances, and how they might be interacting with our alpha brain waves, but that only makes sense. We are interacting vibrationally with everything around us all the time. So, I’m dancing to the tune of a different drummer again, and this time, not actually sure who that drummer may be. But… I like the beat!

Invisibility

I sat in the Fairie Portal after hanging two houses from friends Erika Eckert and Bram and Doug Schaefer and Gretchen Krivoshia. A coyote came in to sniff around, within 15 feet of me. Never saw me…

Three Fairie Condos

Then I walked up towards the prairie and saw this lemniscate right on the path.

When I got the open prairie, War Paint, the sole remaining horse on the property, looked towards me, hesitated a bit, and then pranced by me about 5 feet away, as if he could feel a presence, but did not actually see me. I thought it very strange 🙂

It appears…or disappears…that my practice of fox medicine (invisibility) is going well!

Off to ride my motorcycle, so off with the fox medicine!

Happy Equinox to you all and I hope that this day is bringing you the gorgeousness it has brought here to Harmony Farm!

Another invitation answered…

I was building a new growing bed, at the edge of my forest near the chicken coop today. This bed is for the squash and melon seeds i’m saving. It will be a home for the special seeds that I got from my first squash grown from the seeds given to me by Flordemayo, one of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers. These are special seeds, and they need a special place to be, with lots of room to spread out. So I’m starting early to give it to them!

I figure there are close to 400 seeds from this one squash! So, I was clearing weeds to build a bed that ended up being about 50 feet long, and was going to chop more weeds for green bio-mass for the bottom of the beds. I paused for a moment to wipe sweat from my face, and that’s when I heard it…it was unmistakeable, and a wonderful greeting. There were hundreds of bees swarming amongst these weeds, eating the nectar. I did not see them for a while, but just enjoyed their swarming sounds, and then I started to see their lithe bodies bobbing in and out of the plants. Playing in the swaying stalks as if it were a country dance.

It was back in March, or maybe April, that I asked the bees to come. And today, they came. I am so grateful to have heard their call, before I chopped their sweetness down. They reminded me of two things: to ask for what I need, and to stop and pay attention to the abundance already given. Along with that attention comes an awareness of what all is out here in this beautiful natural world, that gets along and supports each other in the pursuit of life.

I asked for bees, and today they came.

Squash from the garden. Seeds for next year and yummy on the table now!
