Drought-worthy Sentinel

This is one of the hottest, driest summers on record where I live and across much of the mid-Western United States. All of the corn crops surrounding Harmony Farm are dead and dry. Clearly, the engineered crops that we have developed in our Frankenstein laboratories are not made for the real world of life in the boiler plate of evolution. We will have to change, or go hungry. In the midst of this incredible dryness and heat, however, there is a sentinel that has stood up and said: “it is not as dry as you think.” This plant has grown over 5 feet tall and blossomed on an open, hot, dry piece of ditch beside my driveway, during the month of July which has seen temperatures mostly over 100 and let than an inch of rain. It laughs at us (playfully, like coyote would) and says: “if you learn from me, you can remember how to live in harmony with the weather, with the soil, with the wind and the insects and the animals.” This plant is a testament to the wisdom of Mother Earth and ALL her creatures! It is time for us to stop. Reset. Observe. And learn how to live again, and this plant is an invitation to do so. I am listening.

Born and raised during the hottest, direst summer in Kansas!
